  讲座主题Machining research in Birmingham

  讲座内容:

Advanced materials such as nickel-based superalloys, titanium alloys and CFRP are one of the most critical materials used for applications in the aerospace industry, various aspects of these materials have been the focus of significant research and development, especially in their machinability. The machining research activities in Birmingham mainly including machinability of advanced materials, process modelling and simulation of metal cutting operations and innovative machining process development. The principal focus is in understanding and characterization of the influence of material removal processes on workpiece surface integrity, developing numerical and computational models / simulations (primarily based on finite element methods) of machining processes, and the development of new or alternative process configurations. The aims are to achieve greater productivity coupled with improved machinability / surface integrity or specific surface characteristics / functionality.

  主讲人简介

Dr. Sein Leung Soo is currently Professor in Manufacturing Science and Technology within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. His principal research expertise covers the machining of advanced alloys (nickel-based superalloys and titanium alloys), ceramics and composites, modelling of metal cutting processes, micro machining technology and innovative process development. Leung has published over 120 papers in peer-reviewed academic journals, international conference proceedings and other periodicals and has been lead or co-investigator on over 20 UK Government, European Union (EU) and industry funded research projects over the last 12 years. To date, he has successfully graduated 21 PhD research students and is currently supervising another 5 doctoral researchers at various stages of study. He is a Fellow of the prestigious International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) and the Higher Education Academy in the UK. Leung is currently on the Editorial Board of Cogent Engineering and has also delivered a few invited presentations both in the UK and abroad.
